Need to check directions on your Apple Watch but don’t want to mess with installing extra apps? There’s a simple way to access Google Maps right from your Apple Watch, and it takes less than a minute to set up.
Let’s break it down.
Use Google Maps on Your Apple Watch
Step 1: Open Messages on Your iPhone
Grab your iPhone and open the Messages app. Start or open any conversation (you can even send a message to yourself).
Now send this link in the chat:
maps.google.com
This will create a clickable Google Maps link that your watch can open.
Step 2: Open Messages on Your Apple Watch
On your Apple Watch, press the Digital Crown to go to the app screen. Open the Messages app and head to the same conversation where you just sent the link.
You’ll see the Google Maps link right there. Tap it.
Step 3: Use Google Maps on Your Watch
Once you tap the link, your Apple Watch will open Google Maps in its browser. You’ll see the map right on your wrist.
Want to search for a location?
Tap on the search box, then type or speak the place you want to go. It’s that easy.
Quick Access Tip
Every time you want to use Google Maps, just:
- Open the Messages app on your watch
- Tap the same conversation
- Hit the Google Maps link
No need to reopen the browser or download anything extra.
Bonus: Apple Maps Is Already Built In
If you’re not stuck on Google Maps, your Apple Watch also comes with Apple Maps pre-installed. Just find the app, open it, and use the Digital Crown to zoom in or out.
Tap the search icon to find a new place. It’s smooth and works a bit faster than Google Maps on the watch.
That’s all there is to it!
